Welcome to another week of What I Wore Sunday! Before I get going, I want to extend an apology regarding last week’s edition. Several of you posted comments and unfortunately WordPress directed them into my Spam folder. I only happened to see them last night, and they are now posted. Lesson learned. So, Jess, Shannon, and CJ, thank you for taking the time to say Hi and leave your kind remarks, and I promise that next time there won’t be a week’s delay in hearing about it!
This week, high styling had to take a step aside for liturgical synchronicity. Today as you know is the Third Sunday of Advent, otherwise know as Gaudete Sunday, because the Church garbs herself in rose to celebrate the anticipated joy of the Nativity. I wanted to dress to match. However, when I went to select my ensemble this morning, I discovered a scant selection of suitable pink attire. For a once hard core prep such as myself, this was a fairly traumatic realization. Nevertheless, I managed to rally and find something that fitted the bill.
Today I opted to go with a different shirt, paired with the blue blazer and khaki slacks from last Sunday. The shirt is by Izod and comes in a small checked pattern of light pink, dark pink, and white squares. I like it especially because, while it is essentially a pink shirt, it doesn’t feel like a pink shirt. The variation in color gives it a softer impact on the eyes than would a solid pink shirt, and the checked pattern with blue detailing subtly conveys a masculine aura. I don’t have a tie that matches this shirt, so I decided to dress it down slightly and go open collar. This actually put me closer to the norm for my church than I was in last week’s outfit, so in that regard it worked out well. Because of the cold weather, I considered going with a sweater instead of the blazer, but that would have pretty much defeated the purpose of wearing a pink shirt in the first place, so blazer it was. My black wool coat provided the necessary warmth for the trip to and from Mass.
Tip of the Week: Guys, when you’re on a budget and shopping for nicer clothes, T.J. Maxx is your friend. They always have a great selection of name brand dress shirts and slacks that are marked down considerably. Never pay full price for the name brand stuff if you haven’t checked your local discount store, and don’t feel like you have to buy the in store brands at Target or Wal-Mart. Those shirts are typically of a noticeably lower quality, and the most you might save is $5-$10, if that. Take ten minutes to do a little bargain hunting and find some quality threads at a discount price. Your wife/girlfriend, your wardrobe, and your pocketbook will all thank you.
God bless!
