Come, I will conceal nothing from you: I don’t get terribly excited about New Year’s. It’s an arbitrary and purely secular holiday, and as such it lacks the transcendent joy and mystery of the great feasts of the Christian calendar. Nevertheless, as an erstwhile cultural commentator, I behooves me to join in with the zeitgeist of the day and offer up some brief reflection on the past and coming year.
2012 was a year that brought us this:

As we bid farewell to the past year and ring in the new, ask yourself: which image of the future do you think will eventually triumph? In 2013, towards which of these futures will you be striving? Which image of our nation and our world will you be helping to build? On which side will you be fighting?
Happy New Year, readers. God love you and keep you throughout the entire year.
